About the Blog
"Your Friendly Neighborhood Blerd" is a Weebly blog that began in summer 2020. It holds a collection of fun, thoughtful, and nuanced commentary pieces, opinion essays, and content reviews with one running theme: offering a Black, womanist, bi+/queer, non-binary, femme nerd (a.k.a. Blerd)'s perspective on movies, television, books, comics and graphic novels, pop culture and other nerdy/geeky interests I have. As this blog continues to grow, I hope it will continue to serve as a fun, warm, and safe space for all readers of all racial/ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexual identities, religious beliefs, and, of course, nerdy stripes to feel welcomed, understood, informed and inspired.
Blog Topics
The blog contains multiple pages themed around movies, television, books, comics and graphic novels, and pop culture. I've also started a couple of writing series, including "(At Home with) Blerd at the Movies," where I shared and discussed the movies I watched at home or (if safe) in theaters while socially distancing during the global COVID-19 pandemic, and "Blerd Reads," where I share what books I've been reading -- and there's no focus on a particular genre so that readers of all stripes feel welcomed and can find a future title to add to their TBR piles! Additionally, this blog aims to offer pieces that delve into sociocultural and socio-political concepts and topics as they pertain to the media being an analyzed and discussed in a given post (e.g. intersectional feminism, anti-racism, patriarchal culture, LGBTQIA+ concerns and issues; etc.); a common refrain tossed around on the internet these days is "why are we making [insert piece of art or art medium here] political?," but the truth is -- like the world around us -- art can be more than just empty-calorie content, and, oftentimes, it inherently is. As a result, the media/art discussed here tends to dive deeper into certain aspects of media/art that yield further analysis and discussion.
As the blog continues to grow, I'll eventually add future post series where I delve a bit deeper into content that sparks my interest or branch out to different media and pop culture I've either been an outsider towards or seek to dive back into after some time away. I'm always open to suggestions for future series; feel free to leave a comment on my posts or send a direct message to me on Instagram (@yourfriendlyneighborhoodblerd)! I'll do my best to get back to you right away. 😊

When Can You Expect New Posts?
Ah, this is the tricky part about maintaining a blog.
Unfortunately, I have the writing speed of a tortoise but I'm going to be putting more effort into making a consistent blogging schedule. At the moment, the posting schedule is sporadic due to writing speed, mental health matters, and general adulting obligations, but I recommend that you follow me on Instagram (I will soon expand to other social media platforms, particularly ones that prioritize the safety of LGBTQIA+ individuals online) so that you're up to date with what's to come on the blog.

This blog is run entirely by me and my desire to geek out about pop culture (hopefully without embarrassing myself too badly in public). Unfortunately, that doesn't pay the bills! If you are enjoying my work and are able to, consider tipping me on Ko-Fi! As we are still in the middle of a multi-year pandemic and many struggling to get back on their feet financially, I am being mindful of this fact and letting you know that you do not have to tip me if you are unable to.
Because the Ko-Fi page is still in the set-up process, I will immediately update y'all on social media and on the site when my Ko-Fi page is ready to go and inform everyone on how the page works. If you are unable to tip, please know that I will continue to keep content featured on this blog free for readers; I do not want anyone to feel excluded from accessing content on the basis of their personal finances.
